300 Jobs Lost Last Month on Northern Beaches
Monday, 19 October 2009

Shadow Treasurer and Member for Manly Mike Baird said the Northern Beaches is feeling the impact of the broken State Labor Government with 300 local residents losing their jobs in September alone.

“Last month, 300 more Northern Beaches residents lost their jobs, which means another 300 local families who are struggling with financial uncertainty,” Mr Baird said.

“While the Treasurer celebrates his so-called ‘green shoots’, the reality is NSW is only limping out of recession.

“Despite a small improvement in the overall unemployment statistics, these latest figures show many families are still suffering on the Northern Beaches.

“Labor has failed families on the Northern Beaches by failing to focus its attention on the issues that matter – delivering jobs and restoring the economy through lower taxes and support for business.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals have the plans to restore the State’s economy and bring hope and pride back to NSW,” Mr Baird said.

The Liberals & Nationals have proposed cutting payroll tax by 15% for this financial year – with an added 5% cut for areas of high unemployment.

“Our payroll tax plan would make NSW more competitive with other States and enable businesses to keep people in their jobs.

“Establishing Infrastructure NSW would restore business confidence by ensuring every infrastructure project that’s announced, is delivered.

"The Treasurer should adopt the NSW Liberals & Nationals plan of reducing taxation and supporting businesses across this State to get the economy moving.

“Eric Roozendaal talks about ‘green shoots’ but he has forgotten his Government is the one that scorched the earth to begin with.”
