Do you support the RTA's proposal for a footbridge across the Spit?

Political Donations
Monday, 23 November 2009

It is disappointing to see another letter from Digby Hughes (Manly Daily 24/11) who again makes false claims about me. I genuinely believe the donations system needs to change, I have said so in my maiden speech, in a submission to a Parliamentary Inquiry and many times publicly and now finally we have the Premier agreeing election campaigns should be publicly funded.

After many decades, finally the existing system will be changed and the donations culture will be behind us - something I am proud to have played a small part in.

On this and other issues I will without fear or favour continue to stand up for what I believe in and fight for the issues that matter to the Manly community.

cheers

Mike

Hi Mike
I see in your submission to the political donations enquiry you mentioned an expenditure cap of $100,000 for a campaign. Perhaps you could start the ball rolling by committing to cap your expenditure to $100,000 at the next election.

Hi Tim
Thanks for reading the submission. This is something I will be talking about in Parliament next week. I am happy to commit to this if the rules stay exactly the same but I'm hopeful we're heading for a full publicly funded model, which is what I've been pushing for.
I'm keen to discuss so give me a call.
cheers
Mike

response to Digby
Digby, I'm glad you're supporting our campaign for donation reform, which the government has responded to by saying the next State election will be publicly funded.
cheers
