PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER SPIT ROAD, THE SPIT
Dear Mr Li
I am writing regarding the RTA’s plans to construct a pedestrian bridge over Spit Road, north of Parriwi Road.
We are interested in the evidence that demonstrates how much travel times will be reduced in the morning and evening peaks as a result of the proposed bridge.
We can see the benefit of removing pedestrian traffic at this location but are interested in the real data and scope of the benefit.
While the community is desperate to see action to improve traffic flow on the Spit corridor, funds should not be expended on token measures.
There is concern that the proposed plans do not cater for cyclists despite the Spit Road – Parriwi Road route being the main route for cyclists between the Northern Beaches and the CBD/Lower North Shore, with around 300 cyclists taking this route every weekday.
The design of the bridge and lifts fail to take the needs of cyclists into account and the position of the proposed U-turn bay would pose a danger to cyclists descending Parriwi Road.
I urge the RTA to engage in consultation with local cyclists to ensure any plans cater to the needs of these commuters.
I also look forward to details on the expected reduction in travel time that the RTA forecasts would be achieved through the bridge.
Yours sincerely
