As Member for Manly I am proud to represent you and your interests in the NSW Parliament.  It is a role I consider an incredible privilege and I am very pleased the new government can now ensure Manly gets the funds it deserves.

Following the election in March and being appointed NSW Treasurer, I have been focused on getting the State’s finances in order so we can improve the services people rely on every day, and so we can build the infrastructure we desperately need.

For Manly, this means expanding ferry routes, fixing schools, planning the public transport solution for the Spit corridor and ensuring the new Level 5 Northern Beaches Hospital is finally built.

Below is a snapshot of recent progress in the Manly electorate:

·         Ferries – routes have been expanded with fast ferries soon to run from Manly to Darling Harbour via Milsons Point; there is also better access for commuters with the wharf 6 issue finally resolved;

·         Bus Rapid Transit – the first report will be delivered early next year on BRT as the public transport solution for the Spit corridor;

·         New Hospital – $125 million has been allocated to complete planning, undertake Expressions of Interest and start construction of the Level 5 Hospital in the first term;

·         Schools – funds have finally been provided to upgrade the 89-year-old toilet block at Manly West Public School;

·         Seaforth TAFE – Manly Council has purchased the site so after ten years of sitting idle, the facility will be utilised for the community;

·         Lagoons – construction of the 18-million litre sewerage tank in Brookvale started in September to reduce pollution entering Manly and Curl Curl lagoons.

Our improvements to the ferry network are a good example of how the new O’Farrell Government is getting on with the job.  Expanding ferry routes was a recommendation made to the former Labor Government three years ago, however only now the new government is making it happen.

While the global financial situation poses challenges for the State’s bottom line, we are determined to deliver on our commitments – and that includes honest, stable government for NSW.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and hope you have time with your family and friends to enjoy the beautiful place where we live.

Cheers

Mike
