| Remembering What's Important |
|
Tues 14 April - I was reminded last weekend of what is truly important. My brother Steve called with news that all in the family had been hoping for (ie read at least 12 months) and that was he was getting engaged to someone we all thought was not only a perfect match but an incredible person. Many don't know my brother but I am yet to meet anybody who cares about people like he does. He gives time feeding, clothing and building relationships with many in our city who lost hope well before the GFC came around. Having received the call we rushed over to congratulate them both, to be greeted by a group of friends excited and already popping corks ... It was watching the proposal that I was particularly struck... Steve had decided to use one of their favourite movies (Garden State for those detail manics amongst us) and for it to morph into a video of him visiting some of their favourite places together, clips of their friends and special photos. Watching this, it hit me that we spend so little time with those that are important to us ... What is more valuable than our faith, family, friends and the cherished memories we make when we are together? As I watched the beginnings of their journey together it reminded me that whilst the current times are challenging, if we have our health, friends and family then really we can't ask for more than that. Perhaps 2009 will be the time when we are reminded that, the very things that make us feel most complete, were becoming lost in a world continually looking for the next investment opportunity? So when Steve finished by holding up a ring there wasn't a dry eye in the house ... may these moments continue. Write Comment
