It was hard not to feel a deep sense of despair when hearing the announcement of metro rail for Sydney yesterday. Now don't get me wrong it is great to finally hear some sort of vision for public transport, and let's hope there is significant will behind the carefully scripted words delivered yesterday, but haven't we heard this before?

In fact we have - over the past 10 years the Iemma Government has announced 8 new railway lines and to date delivered none. Smart brochures, new ties, catchy grabs and timelines that are left to the next bright-faced minister are a proven winner.

What is galling in this whole thing is that Morris can quickly find $12 billion to fulfil a new metro dream but here on the northern beaches we are not even given the $59 million promised for the Spit Bridge for a few new buses.

So wanting to know what to do? Well we will run our own sort of protest. Every year on the anniversary of the state election week we will run from Balgowlah Boys High to the Oaks in Neutral Bay and race the traffic. We will do this every year until they "Fix the Spit"

We will meet next week on Wednesday 26th March at 7:40am at Balgowlah Boys for the "Fix the Spit" Run. Join us and bring your friends. So we all want public transport for Sydney but, two tips for Morris - just do it and how about including the Northern Beaches in your plans?

Cheers
Mike

Metro line
Mike, if this Metro thing does come out to the Nth beaches which is a possibility as stated by the premier, then I believe its the best option. In the day and age of carbon foot print etc etc Relying on a bus system is a joke and really not a long term solution. When / if your party gets into government then theres no reason at all as to why you cannot sign off on the Nth beaches line now?? I believe you should fight FOR this option!

Worth considering
I agree the metro is worth considering and we will pursue at this end. However, there is enough material I have seen which shows a BRT is possible in a fraction of the time and cost ....
