| 100% Failure Rate for Sydney Ferries |
|
The Auditor General has today revealed Sydney Ferries failed to meet every one of its performance targets for operation last year, said Manly MP Mike Baird who is calling on the Transport Minister to make immediate improvements to the service. "The information that has come out today shows what all in Manly have experienced this week and that is the Manly jetcat and ferry service are failing,” Mr Baird said. "Customer complaints are up 45%, injuries up 100%, and the fleet is not available almost 25% of the time. “In fact every single operational performance indicator has not been met. In other words, Sydney Ferries has a 100% failure record for the last 12 months.” The Auditor General’s Report to Parliament 2007 Volume Five has revealed the following:
“The Walker Inquiry made recommendations to improving the service but no changes have been made and commuters are still suffering. “On Tuesday people wanting to catch the jetcat had to pile onto an overcrowded ferry, hovering in the aisles as the ferry made the journey passed the heads. “It is no surprise that 35 passengers experienced significant injuries in the past year while travelling on the ferries. “We are all sick of waiting patiently for a reliable and safe service. It is time John Watkins delivered a ferry service to Manly that works,” Mr Baird said. “I look forward to Mr Watkins coming to a forum in Manly soon to hear commuters’ views on the future of their ferry service.” MEDIA: Lisa Harrington - 0406 726 880 Write Comment
