Member for Manly Moves to Wentworth Street

Monday 24 September 2007 Member for Manly Mike Baird is set to move his office to Wentworth Street following a deal Parliament has struck for more space at a cheaper rent. “We’ll still be very central, next to Nordic Fusion, but the rent is less and we’ll be able to meet with groups of residents in a meeting room which wasn’t possible at Sydney Road,” said Mr Baird. “There was maintenance work that needed to be done where we are now, particularly after the recent rains when we had flooding through the roof in the toilet, so Parliament made it a priority to find a new space.” Mr Baird said he and his team hoped to be in the new office by mid October. He suggested residents contact the office to take advantage of their State Member. “Many people don’t really know how to use their MP but basically I’m Manly’s voice in Parliament. If there’s a local issue that needs attention I really encourage people get in touch so we can get it addressed.” Mr Baird said residents can drop in on Wednesday mornings without an appointment or call Kristie on 9976 2773 to arrange a time to meet. “I’m also thrilled that we’re expanding our website so it offers the community more. We’ll have a community calendar to promote local events and regular polls to give residents the opportunity to have their say,” said Mr Baird. “I’m conscious of making sure I’m accessible to Manly’s younger residents so I’ve got pages on Facebook and MySpace that I’ll update regularly. People who spend a lot of time online can then get in touch with me on their turf.” Mr Baird said his phone and fax number would remain the same and as the new office is still on the street front, he hoped to continue to have regular passers-by. “Kristie and Lisa work with me in the office, along with a great team of volunteers. Neither of my staff has a political background but they both live locally and love Manly.
