A Seaforth mum gave birth in her car after waiting for the Spit Bridge to go up early on Saturday morning and is obviously upset the NSW Government has not delivered on its 2002 promise to fix the embattled corridor. “Luckily little Addie is healthy and doing fine, however it could well have had a very different outcome,” said Manly MP Mike Baird. John Volante and his partner Natalie Love were making the dash from Seaforth to Royal North Shore Hospital at dawn on Saturday and expected to have a clear run. “John was rightly very worried as they waited for the Spit Bridge to go down as they had complications with their first child at birth,” Mr Baird said. “Unfortunately time beat them and Natalie gave birth while John was driving in panic to Royal North Shore. “Luckily Natalie and Addie are now doing fine but no one should have to go through that,” Mr Baird said. “The Spit Bridge has been causing massive inconveniences for Northern Beaches residents for many years. “This family’s experience shows what happens if you leave long-term problems unattended. “It's now five-and-a-half years since the former Transport Minister Carl Scully made a big announcement on the Spit Bridge that the NSW Government was going to solve the Spit’s problems once and for all. “Addie is now the human face to the Iemma Government’s ongoing inaction on this corridor,” he said.
