Manly and Mona Vale hospitals are understood to be among half the State’s hospitals that will be examined in the current health inquiry, said Manly MP Mike Baird who encouraged Peninsula patients to seize the opportunity to be heard.
“Not all patients in NSW will be given a chance to have input, even though the Health Minister is claiming this inquiry to be “full and open”, but it looks like good news that Manly and Mona Vale hospitals have made the cut,” said Mr Baird.
Hearings for the Special Commission of Inquiry began last Wednesday. The Inquiry, headed by Peter Garling SC, will investigate 115 of the State’s 230 public hospitals.
“Mr Garling has said the Inquiry is not about fixing blame for past events but is an opportunity for very real reform of the NSW public health system.
“I therefore urge the community to share their views on prioritising health needs on the Peninsula. Their first-hand experience is essential if we are going to have real reform.
“The Iemma Government talks about record spending for health but the majority of patients, and staff, see a health system that is crumbling.
“There’s no point continuing to make knee-jerk investments each time bad news hits the headlines.
“People want long-term solutions and this is the opportunity for Peninsula patients to give their views on the major changes that are needed.
“Manly and Mona Vale hospitals have been neglected for too long. However, the State Government has included them in the Inquiry so I encourage the community to make the most of this review,” Mr Baird said.
