| Unanswered Questions Over Manly Wharf Safety |
|
Thursday 14 June 2007 MEDIA RELEASE Manly MP Mike Baird today called on the Labor Government to reveal whether Manly Wharf was subjected to safety audits over the last ten years and to publicly reveal the details of any such reviews. “Manly commuters deserve to know whether the government has proactively assessed the safety of Manly Wharf over the last ten years and also whether its safety continues to be monitored through its current redevelopment,” Mr Baird said. Meanwhile in light of the Cremorne wharf sinking Mr Baird said any new safety audit of the wharf must be completed promptly and its findings reported to the public. “I welcome the Government accepting the NSW Liberal/National’s calls for all commuter wharves to be audited but it has to ensure Manly Wharf is assessed immediately,” Mr Baird said. “It is also essential that the findings are made public to ensure commuters are guaranteed of their safety every time they use the wharf.” Mr Baird also said the Government needed to ensure that all ferry wharves underwent the safety audits regularly. “With more bad weather forecasted we can’t afford to take risks. That means wharf safety should be kept to a high standard through constant monitoring. “So far safety audits have been long overdue and it’s time we had a proper inspection process in place to ease the concerns of commuters.” Write Comment
