Passengers on the new Manly Fast Ferry are having to endure abuse and threatening language from union protesters said Manly MP Mike Baird.
“It is not acceptable for the union to intimidate people who are just trying to get to work.
“I have had a number of people contact my office, and I experienced it myself, being abused and harassed when getting off the ferry at Circular Quay.
“The protesters deliberately stand close together, forcing passengers to squeeze through a narrow gap between them, to get off the wharf.
“I respect the right of the union to voice their issues and by all means protest, but don’t abuse and intimidate people.
“I call on Transport Minister David Campbell to take action to move the protesters away from the direct path of passengers.
“The new service deserves a chance to succeed and there is no doubt this behaviour will deter people from using it.
“It’s also disappointing that we have to waste essential police resources to protect passengers each morning.
“The NSW Government scrapped an essential public transport service to the Northern Beaches.
“People power pressured them to allow a new service to commence.
“It is in the interests of the local community that the new Manly Fast Ferry be given a chance to operate”, said Mike Baird.
