Wed 18 Feb - Passengers on the new Manly Fast Ferry service will not give in to the intimidation of the unions, said local MP Mike Baird.
“The local community fought to have this fast ferry service returned after they were abandoned by the Labor Government.
“These people will now not back down to the abusive behaviour by the Maritime Union and the extended group of people who have now joined the protest against the service.
“I have always said that the union has a right to protest, but the situation is getting out of hand, and the Government has done nothing to protect the passengers.
“I have people contacting me reporting being spat on, sworn at and physically intimidated.
“Where was the Union when the service was scrapped?
“I see Labor MP Peter Primrose has joined the growing band of protestors – where was he when his government dumped the service.
“I also reject outright claims from the union that I have been inciting abusive behaviour from passengers. Such a claim shows how desperate the union has become.
“I understand Bass and Flinders are now talking with the MUA and I hope that commuter interests are put first.
“I am standing up for the long suffering public transport users of Manly, and more broadly NSW.
“As a community we overcame a bad decision, and have won back an important service.
“This people power will not be beaten because if we allow bullying in any form to win, then how will services ever improve for the people of NSW," Mr Baird said.
