10-Year Business Plan Finished Before Lunch
Thursday, 29 April 2010

Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird has suggested the Premier may need longer than the 90 minutes she has allocated today to develop her 10-year business plan.

“The State Labor Government has set aside 90 minutes to work out their 10-year strategy and will be finished in time for a buffet lunch hosted by Ian Macdonald,” Mr Baird said.

“Today’s forum is another example of government NSW-Labor style – lights, camera and no action.

“We support the need to liaise with sectors on how to grow for the next 10 years but do it properly – don’t stage manage an event.

“Participants have been given only 40 minutes to share the opportunities and challenges in their sector and also recommend what’s needed from the government to support growth.

“This sort of tokenism will not turn the State around.

“For a decade, NSW has trailed on almost every key economic indicator and more is needed from the State Labor Government than this stage-managed event.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals have strong plans for real change to Make NSW Number One Again.

“Our Jobs Action Plan is based on economic modelling that shows it will kick start the economy by targeting the creation of 100,000 new jobs.

“It was developed in conjunction with market experts and is driven by our commitment to slash our unemployment rate, which is the highest in the country.

“The NSW Innovation Council has acknowledged the competitiveness of the NSW economy needs to improve and that our comparative advantages should be maximised.

“We support many of the recommendations of the Innovation Council, we just wish the State Labor Government would do something about them,” Mr Baird said.
