A Decade of Despair - Labor Scorches NSW Economy
Sunday, 10 January 2010

Figures released by CommSec today graphically show how far NSW has fallen behind the rest of the country, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today.

“What we see today is the result of a decade of poor management – NSW is not only trailing the rest of the country, but it is literally on a different continent,” Mr Baird said.

“It is quite clear now, without the mist of Government spin, that the NSW economy has been scorched for the past decade.”

The latest CommSec State of the States report ranks NSW last in key economic indicators such as home building starts, construction work, unemployment and economic growth.

"A decade of economic mismanagement has seen NSW record the lowest growth, highest unemployment and lowest level of new dwellings across Australia,” Mr Baird said.

“Home building starts in NSW over the last financial year fell to the lowest level they have been in 56 years.”

Chief Economist at CommSec, Craig James, told the Daily Telegraph that NSW needs “significant government leadership to pull together the construction sectors”.

“The distance NSW has fallen behind the rest of the country should be a matter of outrage for everyone in NSW,” Mr Baird said.

"The ultimate cost of this incompetence is reduced health services, less public transport and infrastructure that fails to progress from announcements on the evening news.

“This independent report shows the State Labor Government has no economic credibility and NSW residents are paying the price.

"This is a Government that is too distracted by infighting to respond to the global financial crisis or act on the looming housing crisis.

"Businesses are avoiding investing in NSW because taxes are uncompetitive and regulation is high.

"That is why the priority of a Liberal/Nationals Government would be restoring confidence in businesses across the State through measures such as our payroll tax plan that would help investment, employment and restore our economy.”

A Decade of Despair - Labor Scorches NSW
There is nothing in the reprt that most NSW residents were not aware of. It also highlights how poorly the Liberal party have performed over the past decade convincing the electorate that they were a worthy alternative to the labor government government.
Well done Comsec for publishing the report.

A Decade of Despair
No surprises here. Interestingly though, we seem to have the most expensive government in the country, despite having the worst services. We pay more for our transport workers than any other state, but have the worst transport. Spooky.

As an aside, Mike strikes me as amongst the more articulate state MPs - he didn't really say that we are litereally another contintent, surely? May as well be a different contintent (a different hemisphere really - more closely aligned with the basket case countries of Europe than the boom countries of Asia), but surely not literally!!!

Apologies for the pedantry.

A Decade of Despair
I have a long memory . And remember the Liberals behaving in much the same way as Labor does now when they were in power .
I don`t know why , but they all seem utterly unable to do their work properly , whilst we pay and pay and pay .

They are all great at arguing and fighting...champions of invective and spleen , which leaves them no time to solve our economic woes so they the easiest possible course...one that requires no work at all...sell everything belonging to the people . Sell what they already own back to `em . Bewdy , mate .

State debt
One of the main reasons this state is broke is because it has an unfunded super system.
There are hundreds of thousands of ex public sevants receiving indxed pensions for life from an unfunded scheme.
Thousands put out on so called stress leave. Water board/ main Roads railways Health workers teachers you name it, encouraged to roll their super over and take up a C E S work search programme or something similar which gave them a sort of dole payment whilst they do odd jobs for cash to support there betting habits
Stress leave, what a joke, The only stress they suffered was having to turn up for 4 days a week 40 odd weeks a year on subsidised public transport.
This, coupled with the Olympic games, of course the state of N S W is broke and as such should go into liguidation and start again.
Give everything a new colour scheme and print new letter heads and bingo a new state free of debt. All ex employees can either go on a pension ( Federal Government) or take their super into a private super scheme like everybody else.
It won't happen but until it does the state will remain broke and trading whilst insolvent.

I hope your having a nice day,

Regards,

response for Norman
Hi Norman, I understand your cynicism. Why don't you contact my office (9976 2773) and come and say g'day and I will try and convince you it will be different.
cheers

Possible campign logo
1788 revisited Mike and we need to "Save Our State" with you and Barry at the helm.
Go the northern beaches when we have all voted you into power and expect our new hospital and a Spit bridge solution. Cynics might say you'll get in anyway, so we "Northern Beachees" will get nothing as you'll have safe seats !
I hope I'm wrong so expect our votes to be rewarded.
Good Luck,
Andrew.

response to Andrew
Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. No need for cynicism - if we win we will build the new hospital and start addressing the spit problem with vigour. Appreciate the concern!
cheers
