Brumby Boasts Following Keneally's Jobs Failure
Thursday, 04 March 2010

“Boeing’s decision to strengthen its operations here in Melbourne is great news for local jobs, great news for the economy and great news for our city’s reputation as a great place to invest… Today’s announcement re-affirms why Victoria is a great place to do business with a growing economy, competitive tax system, highly skilled workforce and a highly supportive government.”

Victorian Premier John Brumby today, Media release

Victorian Premier John Brumby has boasted at the 300 Boeing jobs heading to Melbourne following the aerospace company’s announcement it will close its Western Sydney plant, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today.

“As per usual under this State Labor Government, Ms Keneally is left offering tired old excuses as another Premier rejoices in stealing jobs from NSW,” Mr Baird said.

“It’s disappointing John Brumby is so triumphant at NSW’s loss but he’s just looking after his State’s interests – it’s a shame Kristina Keneally isn’t so focused,” he said.

“Ms Keneally revealed today she didn’t lift a finger to stop Boeing heading to Melbourne.

“Saying the State Labor Government will offer retraining and help to ensure they get their full entitlements is all well and good, but it’s too late.

“How about the State Labor Government act before the event, instead of after it for once?

“With this sort of incompetence from Labor, it’s no wonder NSW has the highest rate of unemployment in the country.

“Kristina Keneally and Eric Roozendaal need to urgently adopt the NSW Liberals & Nationals’ payroll tax plan to help retain jobs and investment in this State,” Mr Baird said.
