New Federal Government figures show the number of jobs lost in the Central Western Sydney region rose by 53.2 per cent last year as the broken NSW Labor Government failed to manage the State’s economy, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today. The ‘Small Area Labor Markets’ report released by the Federal Government this month revealed an additional 4,438 people became unemployed in Auburn, Holroyd and Parramatta between March 2008 and 2009. “This new report shows an additional 4,438 people in the Central Western Sydney region lost their jobs over the 12 months to March 2009, that’s an increase of 53.2 per cent,” Mr Baird said. “These annual figures reflect how families and businesses in Central Western Sydney are suffering while the Rees Government focuses on delivering spin instead of solutions.
“In these uncertain times, businesses need positive and practical plans from Government so they can prevent job losses and boost conditions for local families. “That’s why the Liberals/Nationals has proposed to cut payroll tax by 15 per cent over this financial year, with an additional 5 per cent off in areas of high unemployment. “The Treasurer Eric Roozendaal likes to talk about the ‘green shoots’ he sees appearing but everyone knows it is his Government that scorched the earth to begin with. “Local employers would be able to deliver more jobs to families in Central Western Sydney if the Treasurer adopted the Liberals/Nationals payroll tax plan.” Write Comment
