Further doubt has been cast on the State Labor Government’s claims its transport plan is fully funded after the Treasurer admitted negotiations were being held with the private sector to fund the Rozelle Metro, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today.
“Today the NSW Treasurer has confirmed what every Sydney commuter suspected – their latest transport plan is an election scam,” Mr Baird said.
“In Parliament today Eric Roozendaal did not deny the State Labor Government was looking to the private sector to fund a large proportion of the doomed Rozelle Metro, which was axed to pay for their latest transport promises.
“It is clear the hole in the unfunded transport plan is deepening and the State Labor Government’s credibility continues to deteriorate.”
In Question Time for the NSW Legislative Council today, The Hon. Matthew Mason-Cox asked NSW Treasurer Eric Roozendaal the following:
“Given your Government was negotiating a 35-year Integrated Metro Operation PPP to cover the financing of rolling stock, stations, tracks, systems and operation and maintenance for the CBD Metro, how can you say your transport plan is fully funded when the funds allocated from the recently scrapped Metro included a large proportion from the private sector?”
“The Treasurer did not refute the statement, confirming suspicions their fully funded claims are nothing more than hollow words,” Mr Baird said.
“We know only 10 percent of funds needed for the North West Rail Link are in the transport plan, despite it being one of the key promises. The State Labor Government’s rhetoric doesn’t make up for their lack of detail.
“Now Eric Roozendaal has not denied funds allocated from the Rozelle Metro were due to come from the private sector.
“The perception in the community of the State Labor Government is: we’ll believe it when we see it.
“The State Labor Government is more focused on delivering spin rather than services – and the latest transport plan is no exception,” Mr Baird said.
