Incompetent Roozendaal Admits No Research Done Before Homebuyer Announcement
Monday, 14 September 2009

The incompetent Treasurer Eric Roozendaal has been forced to admit no Treasury research was done into his first homebuyer announcement today, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said.

Treasury officials have told a Budget Estimates hearing they have no idea how many defence force personnel will take up the extension of the first homebuyers grant announced by the Treasurer today.

“It’s clear about as much planning went into this announcement today as the $5 billion Rozelle Metro – that is, none,” Mr Baird said.

“It’s the height of incompetence to announce a program without having any idea how many people are expected to take it up and how much it will cost,” he said.

“It’s no wonder the State’s economy is dragging Australia down with incompetence and mismanagement like this from the Rees Labor Government.

“This is clearly policy on the run from a Treasurer embarrassed about his failed mini-Budget which cut infrastructure spending and raised taxes at exactly the wrong time.

“While the NSW Liberal/Nationals support help for first homebuyers, this is proof the Rees Labor Government has no plan for the future.

“This is economics done on the back of an envelope.

“If this is the way Eric Roozendaal runs the State, it’s no wonder NSW is at the bottom of the list for virtually every economic indicator.

“How arrogant can you get for Eric Roozendaal to think he could get away with this announcement today with no research, no detail and no planning.

“Eric Roozendaal should have used the hearings to announce the payroll tax cut as advocated by the NSW Liberal/Nationals to help boost employment and support business,” Mr Baird said.
