The Premier’s claim the latest transport plan is fully funded is misleading, with revelations the NSW Government was in discussions with the private sector to fund its transport promises, Shadow Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian and Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today. “The Premier told Parliament yesterday the reallocation of funds from the CBD Metro would pay for their latest transport plan, yet we are aware the NSW Government was in formal discussions with the private sector to fund almost half of this project,” Mike Baird said. “Now there is no doubt that this is not a transport plan – it is an election scam,” Gladys Berejiklian said. “How can anyone believe the Premier’s claim that her transport plan is fully funded when we know they were looking for considerable private sector funds to build the CBD Metro?” Mr Baird said despite the State Labor Government’s promises the North West rail link was a key transport priority, only around 10 per cent of the funds needed for the project were included in the Premier’s 10-year funding guarantee. “We have heard the North West rail link listed as part of their fully funded project, however the Government’s own figures show that around 90 per cent of the $6.7 billion needed for this project sits outside their 10-year funding guarantee,” Mr Baird said. “Based on the Premier’s own plan, almost all the North West rail project is unfunded and nothing more than another hollow promise,” Ms Berejiklian said. “For the people of the North West who have been promised a rail link for more than 11 years, this is crippling news. “Yesterday the Premier was embarrassingly unable to answer a fundamental question on how much debt would be incurred to fund the new transport plan. “The Premier talks about regaining trust with the people of NSW – that isn’t done by spinning statements and fudging figures,” Ms Berejiklian said.
