Despite today’s unemployment result, it is the long-term trend of underperformance in NSW that remains the concern, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today. “While we cautiously welcome the small movement in unemployment, the fact remains NSW has been well below the national average since 2006 and still is today,” Mr Baird said.

“We are hopeful the NSW Treasurer today acknowledges there is a lot more work to do to get our state economy moving. “Rather than taking a single statistic to celebrate economic success, his responsibility is to the 200,000 people still out of work in NSW today.” Labour Force figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics released today show the unemployment rate in NSW is 5.4 per cent, still above the national average of 5.3 per cent. “The State Labor Government remains dormant when it comes to stimulating the NSW economy – Eric Roozendaal shouldn’t continue to sit on the sidelines when there are still 200,000 people out of work. “This is underlined by the long-term trend that shows since 2006 NSW has had one of the worst unemployment figures in the nation and still does today. “The State Labor Government must implement the NSW Liberals & Nationals’ measures to make state taxes competitive, reduce regulation and restore business confidence to get NSW moving over the long term.” MEDIA: Lisa Harrington - 0406 726 880 Write Comment
