“This is an important state asset and it shouldn’t be sold in a fire-sale,” said Mr Baird. “The legislation in its current form sells out newsagents and other small businesses who act as lotteries agents by failing to protect their interests, and runs the risk of the public not getting full value for their asset,” he said. “Our first responsibility is to the people of NSW. “Unlike Labor, we will put the public interest first. “We will not see a very valuable asset sold off at a bargain basement price. “NSW Lotteries should not be the subject of a fire-sale just to assist the Rees Labor Government drag its Budget out of the red.” Mr Souris said the absence of any protection for small family businesses which act as agents for lotteries products is a further impediment to the NSW Liberal/Nationals supporting the current legislation. “There must be a level of certainty for those small businesses which are dependent on the lotteries for a significant part of their revenue,” he said. “The absence of any protection for small family businesses which act as agents for lotteries products is an impediment which is the most important aspect of the legislation. “The Rees Labor Government is out of touch,” Mr Souris said.
