The NSW Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird met with the Narellan Chamber of Commerce last night to discuss challenges facing businesses in the Macarthur region and the Liberals/Nationals plans to rebuild the NSW economy. “The clear message from the Narellan Chamber of Commerce was that doing business in NSW is tough,” Mr Baird said. “From the high rate of payroll tax to OH&S regulations, local employers are finding the odds are stacked against them. “Macarthur businesses are looking at options other than growing in NSW, with one local employer choosing instead to employ six people in China.” Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird joined the Narellan Chamber of Commerce meeting last night at the Harrington Grove Country Club in Harrington Park. Mr Baird explained the local employment opportunities that would result from the NSW Opposition’s proposal to cut payroll tax by up to 20% this financial year. “The Liberals/Nationals have urged the Government to cut payroll tax by 15% over this financial year, with an additional 5% off in areas of high unemployment such as Camden. “In the six months from March to September last year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics found 3,200 people lost their jobs in Outer South West Sydney. “In these uncertain times, businesses need positive and practical plans from the State Government so they can prevent job losses and boost conditions for local families.” Mr Baird also discussed the Liberals/Nationals plans to establish Infrastructure NSW to prioritise the State’s infrastructure needs and ensure that every project announced is delivered on time and on budget. “Burdens on families in the Macarthur region would be eased if the NSW Labor Government adopted our infrastructure and payroll tax plans.” MEDIA: Lisa Harrington – 0406 726 880 Write Comment
