The NSW Treasurer Eric Roozendaal is so out of touch he is celebrating a small increase in job ads while NSW has the worst unemployment rate in the country, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today. “Only Eric Roozendaal would issue a media release saying NSW is leading the economic recovery when we have the worst unemployment rate in the nation,” Mr Baird said. “The Treasurer is living in a parallel universe while NSW families are weighed down with the reality. “NSW has lagged every other state or territory on unemployment for almost the entire period of the last four years. “A small rise in the number of job ads is no reason to celebrate while so many people in NSW are out of work.” The latest Labour Force figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show unemployment in NSW is at 5.6 per cent – the highest in the country. “The Treasurer is so entrenched in Labor’s culture of spin and denial that he can’t see his statements completely lack credibility. “Just because you say NSW is leading the economic recovery, it doesn’t mean it’s true. “The State Labor Government should have implemented the Liberals & Nationals payroll tax plan to save jobs at the height of the global financial crisis. “Instead businesses received no support from the NSW Government at a critical time and jobs were slashed. “Just last week the Sensis Business Index showed support for the policies of the NSW Government declined dramatically in the past quarter, with NSW again reporting the lowest business confidence in the nation. “While Eric Roozendaal continues to live in his parallel universe, NSW will continue to limp out of recession,” Mr Baird said.
