"I've had a chat with Glenn Stevens over lunch not that long ago, talking about these challenges and my view is that there will only be further movements in interest rates if the economy warms up." Eric Roozendaal, 2GB 9-12-09 Eric Roozendaal has demonstrated his financial inexperience by divulging details of a private conversation with the Reserve Bank Governor in what is a complete embarrassment to the State, Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said today. "If we needed reminding the incompetent NSW Treasurer is totally out of his depth, well this is it,” Mr Baird said. “In a complete embarrassment for NSW, Eric Roozendaal has broken financial convention and shared in a fireside chat with NSW the thoughts of the Reserve Bank Governor,” he said. “When asked by Ross Greenwood on 2GB about the impact of rising interest rates on NSW families, he freely disclosed contents of his conversation with the head of the Reserve Bank. "Anyone who is aware of the workings of the financial markets understands that every statement from the Reserve Bank Governor is scrutinised and policy set accordingly. “In this gaffe, Eric Roozendaal has shown he is a financial amateur and he has made NSW a laughing stock in financial markets. “The Treasurer and his rookie Premier do not have the financial expertise to rebuild NSW as ‘the premier state’. “NSW needs more from its Treasurer than a handful of cute one liners – substantial progress needs to be made to restore the state’s credibility. "Eric Roozendaal’s embarrassing comments are likely to have an impact in the market and should result in a formal apology to Glenn Stevens,” Mr Baird said. MEDIA: Lisa Harrington - 0406 726 880
