There are reports today NSW taxpayers are set to lose at least $500 million a year under the new carve-up of GST revenue. “Nathan Rees and Eric Roozendaal promised NSW would get a better GST deal under a Federal Labor Government – that has been shown to be yet another lie,” Mr O’Farrell said. “Nathan Rees and Eric Roozendaal need to use their so-called ‘special relationship’ with Canberra to ensure a fair deal for NSW,” he said. “We’ve long argued NSW gets ripped off by the GST arrangements and the NSW Liberal/Nationals will continue to fight for a better deal for the State’s taxpayers. “After offering hope to NSW taxpayers that a Federal Labor Government would put an end to the GST rip-off, Nathan Rees and Eric Roozendaal have again failed to stand up for NSW families. “GST revenue heading to other states is bad news for NSW taxpayers because it means more tax increases, more cuts to frontline services like nurses and police, and less money to build vital infrastructure like roads, train lines and hospitals,” Mr O’Farrell said. Mr Baird said no matter what spin Nathan Rees tries to put on it, Labor is to blame for NSW getting ripped off. “It’s clear Mr Roozendaal is softening taxpayers up for a hit,” Mr Baird said. “Nathan Rees and Eric Roozendaal must not sign a GST deal which leaves NSW worse off. This is their chance to stand up for NSW – let’s see whether they are prepared to do so,” he said. Media: Lisa Harrington - 0406 726 880
