Roozendaal Must Come Clean on Lotteries Sale Questions
Monday, 29 March 2010

Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird today called on Eric Roozendaal to come clean over allegations the successful bidder for the lotteries sale was given access to the unclaimed prize pool – access other bidders were reportedly denied.

There are reports today two unsuccessful bidders were told the unclaimed prize pool was to go into consolidated revenue.

The final deal saw the funds from the prize pool to go the successful bidders.

“Eric Roozendaal needs to come clean over these allegations,” Mr Baird said.

“It’s simply unacceptable if one of the bidders were given benefits the other parties were denied,” he said.

“If true, it’s not a level playing field and could have meant maximum value for taxpayers was not realised.

“You only get one chance to sell a State asset, so you’ve got to get it right.

“I would encourage the Auditor-General to take a look at this lotteries sale process to check it was all above board.

“I would also urge the unsuccessful bidders to make their concerns known to the Auditor-General.

“Given the incompetence of the State Labor Government, anything is possible and nothing would surprise.

“It’s simply not good enough for the Treasurer to give himself a clean bill of health.

“Eric Roozendaal needs to understand that doing the numbers for NSW is different from doing numbers for the Labor Party – you’ve got to be honest and transparent,” Mr Baird said.
