“It appears that what ever new infrastructure spending we are going to see is going to come from Kevin Rudd. “The State Budget will undoubtedly go into the red, but the deficit would have been significantly higher if the Federal Government wasn’t propping it up. “The NSW Government has once more failed to implement its own job creation policies in response to the global financial crisis. “We have a state in recession and an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent compared to the national figure of 5.7 percent. “There are further serious question marks over the Budget, with industry sources indicating that the electricity sale, despite Finance Minister Joe Tripodi’s $300,000 roadshow, will struggle to find a buyer. “That will put additional pressure on the State’s Credit Rating. “The Government couldn’t even do the hard work when it came to a key element of the Budget, public sector reform, which it appears they pinched from Queensland. “We are facing one of the most important Budget’s in the state’s history with NSW in recession, and rather than do the hard work to take this State forward, they borrow someone else’s plan and hope for a good headline. "The people of NSW want a Government that is honest and works hard. This proves that this Labor Government is not honest and takes the short cuts every time. “I challenge the Treasurer to adopt the Liberal/National’s plan to support jobs in the Budget with a 15 percent reduction in payroll tax for 12 months and a cut to lead times for major infrastructure projects,” said Mr Baird.MEDIA: Wendy Black - 0418 532 534 Write Comment
