NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell today announced a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will target the creation of 100,000 new jobs for NSW to stimulate the State’s economy. “The first of the NSW Liberals & Nationals five key priorities is to rebuild the NSW economy through lower taxes and business and jobs growth,” Mr O’Farrell said. “This is why the NSW Liberals & Nationals have a Jobs Action Plan that will target the creation of 100,000 new jobs for NSW,” he said. “The NSW Liberals & Nationals want NSW to be the jobs capital of Australia. “Our Jobs Action Plan will target the creation of 100,000 new jobs in communities across NSW, injecting activity into local economies, growing businesses and ultimately strengthening the State Government’s balance sheet. “A strong economy and more jobs will help us deliver better hospitals, public transport and other essential services, as well as giving families a secure base and peace of mind. “The NSW Liberals & Nationals want to make NSW number 1 again.” The Jobs Action Plan will work by:
· Paying the rebate in two equal parts, on the first and second anniversary of the hire of a new full time employee. This will encourage long-term, sustainable jobs. “The NSW Liberal & Nationals Jobs Action Plan will promote job creation by giving immediate incentives to the businesses who employ around two million workers in NSW, or two-thirds of the State’s workforce. “The opportunity of a job is a significant pathway to choice, quality of life, and security for every individual and family,” Mr O’Farrell said. Shadow Treasurer Mike Baird said to grow our economy, and enable jobs growth, government should remove obstacles to job creation. “When it comes to jobs, NSW has been underperforming. Over the past decade NSW has suffered the lowest jobs growth of any Australian State, and over the last five years NSW has had the highest unemployment rate of any mainland state,” Mr Baird said. “According to official ABS statistics, over the last ten years total employment in NSW has grown by just 15.1%. In contrast, total employment in Queensland has grown by 36%, WA by 29.4% - even Victoria has grown by 25%. “If NSW had created jobs at the same rate as Victoria over the last 10 years, there would be 282,000 more jobs in NSW today. “The way we start the change to a stronger NSW economy is to grow jobs. “Jobs are the glue that holds an economy together, holds families together and drives our State forward. “NSW needs more jobs, and targeting 100,000 new jobs will be a priority for a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government,” Mr O’Farrell said.
