“Surely it is the responsibility of the Treasurer to ensure that the sale price of any asset sold is maximised for the people of NSW,” Mr Baird said. “We acknowledge that Energy Australia has said it is not scaling back its retail book and we accept that, however the question is, are the State’s other energy retailers?” “If it is true that any of the State-owned energy retailers are winding down the size of their business, this would obviously shrink the sale proceeds for NSW taxpayers. “All we are asking is for the Treasurer to confirm that it does not apply to Integral Energy and Country Energy,” Mr Baird said. Treasurer Eric Roozendaal was asked in yesterday’s Estimates Hearings about the electricity privatisation process. Mr Roozendaal failed to say what impact it would have on the sale price if the State’s energy retailers were scaling back their business. “We note Energy Australia has said they are not and we take that word, however let’s see if it is the case for Integral Energy and Country Energy. “We call on the Treasurer to see if he can confirm as definitively for all the State-owned retailers. “The concern is that Eric Roozendaal has not taken an interest in the sale of the one of the State’s largest assets. “These are genuine questions and the Treasurer has the ability to allay our fears.” Mr Baird said the Liberal/Nationals doubt the model being chosen to sell the power assets is in the best interests of NSW taxpayers. “Overall we have serious concerns about the model the Rees Labor Government is using to sell the assets and their competence in managing this major transaction.” MEDIA: Lisa Harrington - 0406 726 880 Write Comment
