Angelika Treichler, penguin warden

Hats off to Angelika Treichler for leading the charge to protect Manly’s penguins – the only mainland colony of penguins in New South Wales. Most evenings you’ll find Angelika sitting on the boardwalk at Manly Wharf quietly watching to ensure the penguins are safe from dogs and people passing by.

Because of Angelika’s passion and commitment, there are now eight adult and four baby penguins nesting near Manly Wharf and Federation Point. Angelika relishes her responsibility and she is an asset to Manly, not only for giving her time selflessly to protect our wildlife, but also for sharing her delight and knowledge with others.

Angelika is keen to hear from reliable people who can commit time in the evening to volunteer as a warden. Please call her on 9976 2176.

To ensure our penguins continue to call Manly their home, Angelika asks dog owners to understand the need to keep their dogs on a leash while walking along West Esplanade, around Oceanworld and the Federation Point end of the Scenic Walkway.
