June Kilmister - Manly's Woman of the Year

June Kilmister - Manly's Woman of the Year

I am thrilled to say Queenscliff resident June Kilmister is Manly’s Woman of the Year 2008.

It was wonderful to see June, accompanied by her daughter Ros, stand in a roomful of exceptional women at Parliament House in March to receive recognition for her contributions to the Manly community.

June is inspirational for the instinctive way she unites the Manly community. At 80 years of age she walks the length of the beach every morning, greeting people by name. She cares for her neighbours, providing help wherever it’s needed – whether it is to mend someone’s clothes or to deliver a copy of the Manly Daily in the morning along with a frangipani to brighten up their day.

Making people happy makes June happy. June plays an active part in the community because she enjoys it. She has been volunteering since she was a child and is Manly Meals on Wheels’ longest serving volunteer (over 40 years!) and a long-time member of the Girl Guides movement. June has also helped organise a monthly seniors’ lunch for the past decade and collects for the Red Cross.

June is not only an inspiration to other women, she is an inspiration to everyone for the thoughtful way she gives to others and her bright outlook on life. June makes Manly a wonderful place to live and on behalf of the Manly community, we thank her.
